Dr. Simovitch received his undergraduate training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where he graduated with distinction. He then earned a medical degree from The Chicago Medical School in Illinois, where he was presented with the Dean’s award for academic accomplishment.
Dr. Simovitch performed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. While at Duke, he was an Assistant Team Physician for all Duke University Athletic Teams including the 2001 NCAA National Champions in Men’s Basketball.
After residency, Dr. Simovitch acquired advanced training and expertise in shoulder surgery when he was selected to be the prestigious 2005 Intercontinental Shoulder Fellow. As a fellow, he spent 6 months on the Harvard Shoulder Service at the Massachusetts General Hospital under the direction of Dr. Jon JP Warner and 6 months at Uniklinik Balgrist, the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland under the direction of Dr. Christian Gerber.
Dr. Simovitch joined PBOI after leaving Boston where he was an Assistant Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. While at Massachusetts General Hospital and in the years prior, Dr. Simovitch authored 3 book chapters dealing with the surgical treatment of the stiff shoulder, advanced reconstructive techniques for shoulder instability and injury prevention and rehabilitation for active older athletes. In addition he has authored multiple peer reviewed publications examining the technical aspects of achieving a successful outcome after reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Dr. Simovitch has lectured and served as a shoulder course instructor internationally. He has been involved in the development and initial implantation of various shoulder replacement devices.
Dr. Simovitch specializes in the treatment of complex shoulder and sports medicine ailments, with particular expertise in arthroscopic and advanced open primary and revision reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow, as well as reverse shoulder replacement. He utilizes the most advanced arthroscopic and open surgical techniques to repair and reconstruct damaged bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and cartilage. Dr. Simovitch believes in treating each patient as an individual and applying new and evidence based principles to treat common and complicated problems. He is dedicated to the treatment of his patients and prides himself on his availability to those he treats.
